New Coloring Page for Zaria Fierce and the Enchanted Drakeland Sword

November 8, 2015 By Keira Gillett

I’m loving this new coloring page from Michele Carpenter. What do you think of her newest offering? What music is Oskar listening to?

To print, click on the image and you will be taken to the full-size drawing.

I would love to see your drawings so be sure to e-mail me if you print these out and color them in. My e-mail is [email protected]

Blog Tour Stop: Setting the Mood with Music

October 26, 2015 By Keira Gillett

I’m starting the mood off right on the new blog tour for Zaria Fierce and the Enchanted Drakeland Sword. Join me at Emily’s blog Midwestern Book Nerd to see how music inspired me as I wrote the second book in the Zaria Fierce Trilogy.

She had great things to say about the book too. It’s a stellar review and you should definitely check it out in full. Thanks Emily!

I really enjoyed getting lost in this book and in this world one more time. It was just so easy to get lost there and to feel like I was also going on these adventures. Loving this book at this age makes me wonder just how much my 13 year old self would love it (and the answer is probably that my 13 year old self would love it a lot, because this is definitely something that I would be all over). I love the relate-ability of the main character and the easy flow to the story. I love that I can get lost in the adventure from page 1. I love that I can look at Zaria and see a positive fictional role model for kids.

Blog Tour Stop: Writing, Reading, and Music

June 12, 2015 By Keira Gillett

You can find me today over at Liberty Falls Down discussing how music intersects with writing and reading. I also share the playlist for Zaria Fierce and the Secret of Gloomwood Forest so you can listen as you read to what I listened to as I wrote. How fun is that?

Q: Before you begin to write, what do you do?

January 17, 2015 By Keira Gillett

A: I queue my book playlist, and find a song to start the day or hit shuffle. Sometimes I reread the last scene, but if I do reread, I only allow myself to make nominal changes to it before continuing. Editing, as I’ve heard, is the biggest time suck to your writing process if you let it rule you before its time comes. I’m careful to not do too much of it until the book’s first draft is done.

Playlist for Zaria Fierce and the Secret of Gloomwood Forest

December 17, 2014 By Keira Gillett

Previously I was asked if I listened to music while writing. I do, and here is a playlist featuring songs I listened to while writing Zaria Fierce the Secret of Gloomwood Forest. What music came to mind for you when you read the book?

Q: Do you listen to music when writing?

December 10, 2014 By Keira Gillett

A: Yes, I do! Almost always. The music I listen to when I write is generally free of lyrics such as classical music or instrumentals. I like listening to lyric-free music because it is not distracting and can enhance a mood of a scene. I imagine sometimes that the track I’m listening to would play in the background of a movie-version of Zaria Fierce.
